Grade Seven Academics
Our grade seven math program will often have two areas of focus.
To begin, students will be grow in their understanding of Linear Growing Patterns and fundamental Numeracy concepts that create the foundation for many other strands in mathematics.
Within our look at Patterning, students will explore the various methods of solving problems algebraically. We will explore five different strategies with the end goal being that when given "real world" problems they can choose the most effective strategy to most accurately and clearly communicate their solutions.
Our look at Numeracy will begin with place value, various forms of notation and the idea that exact numbers are not always necessary. Other concepts that will be explored will be order of operations, factors, multiples and percent.

We will begin our grade seven Language Arts studies with an examination of the various forms of figurative language. Students will explore the difference between literal and figurative language by exploring the deeper meanings of writing tools such as similes, metaphors, alliterations, hyperbole... Our culminating task to this learning will be the creation of lyric poems. Students will go through various versions of their poems, continuously added figurative elements going from very literal initial ideas to hopefully rich and a deep, figurative message.
In addition to our look at poetry, students will also explore the various portions of classic short stories. These stories will be chosen purposefully to shine a light on various writing styles and provide a reading springboard to hopefully interesting and exciting writing, oral and media learning.

History will be explored in the second term.
Our geographical studies will revolve around Physical Patterns In An Ever Changing World. Students will explore the physical features of the Earth and how they are constantly changing and affecting human activity. Topics that will be explored will include landforms, rivers, weather, climate change and natural resources.
The world is a constantly changing place. This NEW understanding could allow students a greater appreciation of these events.
